Some families are pie families and some families are cake families.
The Johnson Family is a pie family. I've been making apple pies for many years -
too many to count!
This version of apple pie sort of just happened - and now I think we prefer it to the apple pie with the expected spices of cinnamon, ginger, and/or cloves. It was when he had the second piece that I realized that this "new" recipe was a success!
Our winemaker, Jeff Murphy, recommends pairing this pie with
Chambourcin, whose berry flavors complement those in the pie.
