March & Maple

Dear //FirstName//,
There's something about March.  The sun begins to shine more regularly - sometimes blindingly on the snow - and we start to see the grape vines taking on the color of cinnamon sticks.  Terry Bates at CLEREL (Cornell Lake Erie Research Lab) explains that the vines' brown periderm exterior protects the plant from cold and dehydrates and turns color over the winter (oh!).  Combined with more daylight hours, we know that spring is coming and that the maple sap will soon begin to run.

Johnson Estate's unique Maple Liqueur, first released in March 2015, is now a popular "GOLDEN" tasting room favorite.  Winemaker, Jeff Murphy, makes this fortified apéritif (20% alcohol) with local maple syrup from Big Tree Maple and estate-grown grapes and grape spirits.  It is a delicious pre-dinner or dessert wine, tasting a little like a combination of sherry with a smooth maple finish.
This fortified wine was awarded a GOLD Medal and 93 Points by Tastings.com. And yes, we have Big Tree maple syrup for sale in the tasting room. Find other maple farms here: www.NYSMaple.com
