Memorial Day - May Wine & Walks

You may have been reading about recent freezing temperatures in New York's wine regions. We are happy to report that Mother Nature was kind and those blistering temperatures did not come to us here in WNY. So, we are relieved - the grape buds pictured above were not damaged by extreme termperatures!

I can't stop talking about the Estate's newest vintage of May Wine!
Staff-member, Matt observed that this spring's vintage has some sweet spicy, curry notes. I could taste spicy floral aromas too - but couldn't describe or identify them exactly. And then I was standing in the Woodland Garden, surrounded by sweet woodruff, and noticed its small white flowers did indeed have that same floral aroma!

I started planting sweet woodruff as a salute to Winemaker Jeff Murphy's inspiration to reproduce the Germanic tradition of "Mai Wein Bowle".  Now the garden has become lush enough that we're going to add  a table and some chairs to make a special location for wine tastings. More on that to come soon!

Our May Wine is a simple and elegant wine to serve at all of your Memorial Day weekend activities - brunch, lunch, and supper. Just drop a strawberry into the flute or glass and you'll be celebrating spring, "German-style".

Enjoy and Happy Spring!
