AT THE ESTATE: 2022 HARVEST CONTINUES

Harvest continued this week with the harvest of our Ives grapes,
an American grape with a dense color and rich grapey flavor similar to Concord. While its ancestry is not perfectly known, it was introduced by Henry Ives III in 1840 and planted along the banks of the Ohio River during
the 1850s. The grand New York State "port" wines, popular after the repeal of Prohibition through the 1960s, were dependent on Ives. Recently, the growing of Ives has become difficult in the US, since it is susceptible to damage from increasing air pollution. At Johnson Estate, we have found that irrigation and summer sprays of foliar nutrients have overcome much of the effects of ozone air pollution. Is Ives one of your favorites?

LAST OF THIS YEAR'S VINTAGE OF MAY WINE

We have just fifty cases remaining of this special summer wine, so if it is one of your favorites, you might want to claim a few bottles for your cellar (yes, it will store fine; best consumed within a year). Made of Vidal Blanc and infused with sweet woodruff, our sparkling May Wine is Germany's special spring punch. Winemaker, Jeff Murphy, was inspired by Germany's annual celebration of May Day, where the festivities include "MaiWein", a wine punch made of sparkling white wine, strawberries, and the shade-loving herb, sweet woodruff. This wine is perfect for small celebrations since the bottle-size is 375mL ($14.99). It won a GOLD Medal and 94 Points from Tastings.com.

REVERIE CREAMERY - SPECIAL SALE & SPECIAL MESSAGE

Many of Johnson Estate's customers are also customers of Reverie Creamery. In the past, you might even have attended a wine and cheese event featuring Reverie cheeses paired with Johnson Estate wines. Here's Reverie's recent
email and Facebook message to their beloved customers notifying them of the coming closure of Reverie - along with notification of the store's 40% discount on cheese/merchandise and 30% discount on wine, beer, and cider. We will truly miss this intrepid business owner, Riko Chandra, and the enterprise he created during the last seven years.
